For over a decade, Valerie Sigamani has steadfastly advocated for immigrants, asylum seekers, and displaced communities. Her passion for immigration law is rooted in a lifelong commitment to justice, human dignity, and global advocacy. She brings skill and compassion to her practice, ensuring every client feels heard, respected, and fiercely represented.
Valerie earned her Juris Doctor from California Western School of Law in 2024, where she excelled as a finalist in the Jessup International Moot Court Regional Competition and served as Vice President of Amnesty International’s CWSL Chapter. Dedicated to global justice, she pursued a certification from the Harvard Humanitarian Initiative and a graduate degree in Community and International Development. Now, as a judge for the Jessup International Moot Court Global Competition, she continues to expand her expertise in international law and global migration.
As an Associate Attorney at Jacobs and Schlesinger LLP, Valerie represents clients in complex asylum and removal defense cases, advocates for victims of trafficking and crime through T- and U-Visa applications, and has successfully litigated bond proceedings to reunite detained individuals with their families. Previously, Valerie worked at Jewish Family Services where she focused on Ukrainian, LGBTQIA, and religious persecution matters, ensuring that those facing danger have a voice and a path forward.
Her dedication to humanitarian work extends beyond the courtroom. Before becoming an attorney, Valerie worked in the humanitarian field with refugees and displaced populations, from assisting refugees in Michigan to advocating for internally displaced individuals she has had the privilege of working with communities in and from Iraq, Syria, Sudan, and Latin American countries. Valerie understands that seeking refuge is an act of strength, and she ensures her clients are empowered throughout their legal journey. With deep cultural awareness and firsthand experience supporting vulnerable populations, she approaches each case with empathy, strategy, and an unwavering belief in her clients' resilience.
In addition to her immigration work, Valerie gained experience in criminal defense at the San Diego County Public Defender’s Office, securing defense verdicts and dismissals for juvenile and felony cases. This background gives her a unique perspective on the intersection of criminal and immigration law, helping noncitizens navigate complex legal challenges with confidence.
Fluent in Spanish and passionate about global communication, Valerie is continuously learning and currently studying Italian and Arabic to further connect with the diverse communities she serves.
